This time I have come up with a preference list of various things I like/do -
Movies: Crime/Drama/Biography/True events > Comedy > Film noir > Western/War > Romantic
Here’s the deal. I like drama, biography and movies based on crime and true events more than any other genre. The Pianist, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Wrestler, Half Nelson, The Fighter, Trainspotting,Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction ...just to name a few. The reason I dig this particular genre is because of the ‘variety’. There is something for everyone in these kinds of movies. Comedy is a close second in my list, basically for the mood upliftment it does. I have also become a fan of film noir. Thanks to Hitchcock and Chris Nolan (Following is one must watch movie by Nolan).Needless to say, I am not a great fan of romantic movies because I find them cheesy and unrealistic (Exception: Before sunrise and Before Sunset).Hence, they sit at the bottom of my movie preference list.
Music: Rock > X > Metal > Hip hop/Rap
I guess my music preference is self explanatory. I love rock music (basically alternative and progressive stuff) and I usually depend on last.fm to explore new artists. I have used rock as an umbrella term for oldies as well as the new artists and it includes legends namely Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The rolling stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Iron maiden, AC DC, Dire Straits and grunge artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. Among the new crops I admire The Foo Fighters, Incubus, Klimt 1918, AFI and Karnivool. X denotes the recommended stuff i.e. what people want me to listen. Most of the times, I end up getting awesome recommendations (Bob Dylan was recommended by Kandi, Velvet Revolver and Bon Iver by AS, some amazing trance/electronica/house stuff by Rana and Adele by Niharika).Metallica is the only heavy metal that I really love to listen. I am not a metalhead but don’t mind listening if it’s truly good (Aditya is a savior in this context. He advocates some good metal stuff that I listen without even complaining).Hip hop and rap is something I would try when I am in a good mood/ have nothing else to do / feeling enervated but please make sure it has to be really, really awe-inspiring stuff.
Drinking: Scotch > Beer > Rum > Vodka > X
I am a big fan of alcohol. I don’t like to discriminate between different alcoholic beverages and drink them anyway (unless and until I have better and significant options). Nonetheless, I have developed a taste for scotch these days and I confess that it has replaced beer from pole position of my preference of alcohols.’ Double scotch on the rocks’ - nothing beats this in terms of class and taste. Beer still remains my favorite drink when I am chilling out with my gang (or when I am supposed to pay for the drinks; because it’s cheap).Wheat beer is something I look for in the first place. Rum (Dark>White) is good for winter or rainy seasons. The kind of weather we have in Pune, a bottle of rum always comes handy. After rum, it has to be vodka (Absolut or Smirnoff) .X indicates other alcoholic drinks like wine, gin etc.
Books: Fiction > X
It’s a clear choice when it comes to reading. Fiction is the only genre I enjoy reading. The Fountainhead, Catcher in the rye, Chuck Palahniuk’s (Survivor, Choke, Fight club), To kill a mocking bird are some of the fictional books to die for.Eveything else becomes secondary (read: non existent) if it’s not a work of fiction.
Food: Italian > Indian > Chinese > X
I am talking about a style of cuisine. Italian is top ranked as far as my preference is concerned. I am a diehard fan of cheese. Anything that contains cheese in excess stimulates my taste glands. The more the cheese, the better is the food. As I write this, I am thinking of eating chicken lasagna and pasta in white sauce. Indian food especially authentic Mughlai preparations are ranked second. There’s something great about Indian food. Let’s take Biryani as an example. How a Biryani tastes in Lucknow is lot different than the way it tastes in Hyderabad or in Delhi. You’d either love it or LOVE IT. Did anyone say ‘miscellany? Don’t even get me started on this. As an Indian, I can boast of at least 5 delicacies per state. Multiply that with the number of states and you’ll get an idea how many choices we have. After Indian, I like eating Chinese basically noodles and curry stuff (Sichuan sauce fish and White steamed rice) in Mainland China or equally good restaurant. I think our roadside Chinese stalls can teach a thing or two to Chinese people how to make their food more scrumptious.
Anshul’s needs: Eating > Sleeping > Photography > X
X includes internet browsing, time killing, farting etc.
